Mindful Reads · Mindful Moments — Finding Steady Ground

.SS&H Mindful Reads

Hello friend,

This week’s Mindful Moments isn’t about doing more.
It’s about seeing clearly what you’ve already been carrying—and honoring it without judgment.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been sitting with a simple truth:
When life feels scattered, it’s often because many important things are happening at once.

Right now, my days have held:

  • Navigating financial pressure while protecting mental health
  • Turning lived experience into writing, advocacy, and gentle income streams
  • Rebuilding structure without slipping into shame or burnout
  • Listening closely to my nervous system instead of overriding it

If you’re in a similar place—trying to heal, create, provide, and stay regulated all at once—you’re not failing. You’re integrating.

There’s been a quiet shift toward:

  • Short, realistic work blocks instead of hustle
  • Writing that soothes instead of performs
  • Income strategies that honor capacity
  • Systems that reduce overwhelm rather than add to it

Progress doesn’t always look productive on the outside. Sometimes it looks like choosing sustainability over speed.

Some days still include depression, fatigue, or that inner voice that whispers, “You should be further along.”

On those days, the work is simpler:

  • Breathe
  • Eat
  • Reach out
  • Do one small thing that supports tomorrow

That counts. It always has.

Mindful Moment: Release the Brace

Right now, gently notice:

  • Your jaw
  • Your shoulders
  • Your chest
  • The back of your neck

Take one slow breath in through your nose for 4.
Hold for 4.
Exhale for 6.

As you exhale, imagine unclenching armor you didn’t realize you were wearing.

Before you move on with your day, pause and ask yourself:

What is one thing I can release this week that no longer serves my nervous system?

You don’t have to solve everything.
You only need to stay present with what matters most.

If this week’s words met you where you are, hit reply or leave a comment and share one thing you’re choosing to release. You don’t have to explain—one word is enough.

This week I welcomed several new readers after CatGetsSocial.com included me in her Freebie Friday.

A simple, stress-free daily tracker to help you build healthy habits, stay accountable, and create more serenity and harmony — one small, doable step at a time. For my regular readers who have not received this yet you can direct download this here.

This Week’s Companion Journal Prompt

What am I carrying right now that once protected me—but may no longer need to be held so tightly?

Take 5–10 minutes.
Write without editing. Bullet points are welcome. Silence is welcome too.

If it helps, you can begin with one of these soft starters:

  • “Right now, my body feels…”
  • “Lately, I’ve been telling myself…”
  • “One thing I’m allowed to loosen my grip on is…”
  • “If I trusted myself a little more, I might…”

There’s no right insight here.
Awareness alone is enough for today.

When you’re done, place a hand on your chest and take one slow breath.
Thank yourself for showing up—even briefly.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for choosing gentleness in a world that often pushes urgency.

With care and calm,
Laurie

P.S. If these words met you where you are, consider sharing this with someone who might need a reminder that they’re not alone—or leaving a small tip to help support this work. Every bit helps keep this space going.
